Serving as a combat medic during his National Service sparked Nurse Clinician Daniel Seah’s interest in the profession of healthcare, and led him to begin on his nursing path in 1985. Mr Seah recalled one of his more memorable experiences in his 31 years in nursing to be during the H1N1 flu pandemic in 2009, when he was working in the Accident and Emergency (A&E) department in Singapore General Hospital (SGH).
“I was given only one and half days to set up a Flu Screening Area (FSA) during the pandemic, but with the help of my colleagues and nurse clinicians, my team and I managed to get the FSA ready to receive patients by the second day,” he said.
Being one of the 100 nurses across the public health sector lauded at this year’s Nurses Merit Award held on 19 July 2016, Mr Seah feels that nursing is “more than a job, it is a personal fulfilment.” He takes pride in his role as an Infection Control Nurse, driven daily by his primary responsibility of containing or impeding the spread of diseases to the best possible degree.
“It gives me joy when I know played a part in providing a quality and safe environment to every patient under my care and aided in their speedy recovery,” he said.
