Coping with a chronic skin condition can be a challenge for patients and their caregivers as they not only have to cope with the effects of their skin diseases but also the reactions of others to their condition. There may be stigma attached to a wide range of skin diseases.
Support groups are an important source of psycho-social and emotional support. Not only do the groups provide a platform for patients and caregivers to share experiences of coping, they also empower their caregivers to understand their loved ones' illnesses and provide better care. We offer a range of support groups, tailored to the unique needs of the patients and caregivers we work with. These include Psoriasis and Eczema which are patient-led groups facilitated by our staff. These groups offer opportunities for sharing with one another. In addition, we invite professionals to share on topics related to the various skin conditions and plan for events and outings which are fundamental to our work with patients.
We encourage patients and caregivers to take part in these support groups to make connections with other individuals and provide support to one another, which can be enormously helpful.
